Take care of home safety basics

Updated: Nov 8, 2019

We’ve made it quick and convenient list of priority items to cover when making a home safe renovation to an elderly home.

Top Things to Consider

It might seem like all the answer might be a trip away to your local home goods store but many miss a few key areas that could keep loved ones safe.

Lighting- Home lighting in most older homes it out of date and typically done in a way that seems to be not thought out. Address light bulb changes to LED first especially in dark or windowless area of the hour like hallways. Unfortunately, as we grow old our vision decreases but trips to the bathrooms tend to increase. Changing out lighting in high traffic areas will help decrease the risk of tragic falls in the wee-hours of activity.

Declutter Walking Areas- Just as important is lighting to dim or dark area is the items surrounding those areas. Many of us grew up in a clutter or eclectic styled home with many items scattered around. As beautiful or throughout removing these items to create more space can ensure our elderly loved ones will be safe as mobility or speed to react decrease over time. Using compassion and not bossy behavior during this conversation is highly advised to keep the peace.
