Required Testing

TB
Testing

Tuberculosis (TB) testing determines if an individual has been exposed to the bacteria that causes TB.

This is required for all employees before working with clients.

Testing Options

๐Ÿ’‰ Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test (TST)

A small amount of fluid (tuberculin) is injected just beneath the skin.

Two-Step Test

Requires a total of four visits: two separate placements, each followed by a reading within 48โ€“72 hours. You are not eligible to work until we have received your final results.

One-Step Test

Allowed only if you have documentation of a negative TB skin test within the past 12 months.

๐Ÿฉธ TB Blood Test (IGRA/TB Gold)

RECOMMENDED

A single blood draw; results are typically available within approximately 5 days.

๐Ÿฉป Chest X-ray

(For previously positive TB results only)

Required if you've previously tested positive. Must clearly indicate no active TB and be dated within the past 5 years.

Why is TB Testing Required in Home Care?

โœ… Safety and Health Protection

TB primarily affects the lungs and spreads through airborne droplets from coughing, sneezing, or speaking. Regular TB testing of caregivers helps prevent unintentional transmission to clients.

๐Ÿ‘ต Protecting Vulnerable Clients

Home care recipients often include elderly individuals or those with underlying health conditions, who are especially susceptible to severe illness if infected with TB.

๐Ÿ“‹ Regulatory Compliance

Proof of a negative TB test result prior to working with clients is required by the Department of Health. Additionally, all employees must complete a TB Risk Assessment and Screening questionnaire during onboarding and annually thereafter.
